We're Vivian and Philippe; two developers who love Magic. Convoke exists because we wanted an easier, friendlier way to play with friends online. We designed it for new (us!) and competitive players alike.
Philippe played MTG when he was a child and started again recently. Vivian got introduced to Magic this summer at a cottage. After the cottage trip, we tried using SpellTable for a while with scattered friends, but we found it difficult to use not knowing most cards. Loving coding and training AI models, we started building Convoke. We were fortunate enough to connect and chat with Amy online. We were so excited to talk to the creator of SpellBot and someone who is passionate about working on cool projects. Amy is a long term member of the MTG community and has a lot more to contribute.
Our goal is simple: help players sit down at a “virtual table” that feels welcoming and smooth, without the downsides of using webcams. We build helpful tech like card recognition so beginners learn faster and experienced players move quicker. We would truly appreciate any of your feedback so we could keep building features you love and grow a friendly community.
Convoke will always be free to use for playing online with friends and the community. However, running our powerful recognition model on the server is quite costly. While currently free during the Alpha, AI features will eventually cost a small fee so we don't go broke.
We're always looking for the next features to build to promote positive play, friendly lobbies, and making it easy to find the right friends.
We want inclusive tables and good vibes only. We will not tolerate toxicity, harassment or bigotry of any kind. Help us keep build this community where all are welcomed.
