Our rules
Convoke started with standard Horde rules. Once tables got going, the results were lopsided: outside of solo games, survivors won the large majority of their matches so we made some changes.
Standard Horde deals the same deck whether two or six of you sit down, and you all share one turn. Every extra survivor brings a full set of attackers, blockers and removal, while the Horde stays the same. So from three survivors on, we add Zombie tokens. A wave flips until it hits a non-token, so more tokens means bigger waves and more deck to grind through. From five survivors, the Horde also gets an extra wave each turn.
We started with 20 life per survivor, so a pod of five shared 100 life and could shrug off almost anything. Now life is one pool set by the difficulty, whatever the size of your pod. More players already means more ways to stay alive. Bringing healing should be part of your prep! Surely you brought a healer?
Standard Horde is one deck and one set of rules. We added four difficulties, each with its own deck, life, setup turns and waves, so a pod that keeps winning can turn it up easily.
Solo games were already a real fight, so one or two survivors still face the deck as written (Infernal adds a few tokens). On Hard and Infernal, the Horde's opening turns usually come a wave lighter, so you can set up before it runs at full speed.
FAQ
A co-op way to play Commander: the whole table plays as one team of survivors against the Horde, a deck of Zombies that attacks every turn. Empty its deck and clear its board to win.
No. On Convoke the Horde is its own seat at the table. On its turn, its buttons reveal the wave, attack and end the turn, so everyone gets to play.
